New! Verbena officinalis var. grandiflora. This unusual verbena is understated until mid-summer, when its loose tangle of burgundy stems and purple-green foliage is adorned with tiny lavender-pink flowers that form a cloud of color. It's wonderful as a filler in beds and containers. Tender perennial to zone 7. Height: 2' to 3'.
Vervain. A widely diverse class, easy-going Verbena is generally regarded as being drought-resistant, tolerant of partial to full sunlight and happy in average, well-draining soil. Once established, Verbena requires little care, spreading out to cover its allotted flower bed space. Verbena should be started indoors 12 to 14 weeks before transplanting out after all threat of frost has passed. Deer resistant. Summer flowering.
Average seed life: 1 to 2 years.
